A laparoscopic trainer that replaces the camera and monitor with the trainee's own Android phone or tablet. Removing both from the bill of materials brings the cost down substantially, and removing them from the case makes the whole thing fold flat. For a resident who wants to practise at home rather than book lab time, that combination is the difference between practising regularly and not practising at all. The frame folds to roughly the size of a laptop bag. The device mount positions the camera to give the same offset view as a laparoscopic stack, so the hand-eye inversion trainees actually need to internalise is preserved. A silicone practice pad and instruments are included. Holds phones and small tablets; no app purchase is required beyond the device's own camera.

  • The phone version is genuinely clever

    Dr. Vikram Sethi

Using a resident's own phone brings the cost right down and it folds flat enough to take home. Ours are practising far more often as a result.

  • Bought several for a teaching session

    Dr. Lakshmi Narayanan

Priced so we could give one to each trainee rather than sharing. Held up fine through a full day of practice.

  • Structured boards are the right exercises

    OT Technician, City Care Hospital

Peg transfer, precision cutting and knot tying are exactly the tasks that transfer to theatre. Good that they are included rather than sold separately.

  • Camera output works with any monitor

    Dr. Arjun Bhatia Verified purchase

Plugged straight into an existing display with no proprietary hardware needed. Set up in under ten minutes.

  • Pads last well

    Dr. Sandeep Joshi Verified purchase

We get a good number of sessions out of each before the patterns start to degrade. Washes clean easily between users.

  • Layered pad feels realistic

    Dr. Rajesh Nair Verified purchase

The three layers give proper changing resistance through the pass — much closer to real tissue than the flat rubber pads we used before.

  • Q

Does the trainer need a special monitor?

Asked by Dr. Imran Shaikh · 30 Aug 2026

    A

No. The camera outputs standard composite video and will work with any monitor or capture device with a composite input. Many users connect it to a laptop through an inexpensive USB capture stick.

  • Q

Should I buy the large or the small trainer?

Asked by Dr. Arjun Bhatia · 14 Aug 2026

    A

The large box is the one for a teaching institution — port angles are more realistic and several trainees can be taught around it. The small box suits individual practice and, because it fits a desk, tends to get used far more often.

  • Q

What is included in the set?

Asked by Dr. Sunita Deshpande · 28 Jul 2026

    A

The camera, five instruments covering grasping, dissection, scissors and needle holding, connecting cables and the structured practice boards. The large and small sets differ in box size, not contents.

  • Q

How long do the suture pads last?

Asked by Dr. Lakshmi Narayanan · 29 Apr 2026

    A

It depends on how densely they are used, but each pad takes a large number of passes before the patterns degrade. They are washable and reusable, and are inexpensive enough that most teaching units buy them in quantity.

  • Q

Does the Android trainer need a particular phone or an app?

Asked by Dr. Priya Ramanathan · 09 Mar 2026

    A

Any reasonably recent Android phone or small tablet will work, using the device camera app. There is no proprietary software to buy. The mount holds phones and small tablets.
