The No-7 handle without the ratchet. For dissection this is the one to have: the jaw opens the moment finger pressure eases, so tissue is released exactly when intended and never held a fraction longer by a ratchet that has to be consciously disengaged. That responsiveness is the whole argument for a plain handle. Around delicate structures, a ratchet that stays engaged half a second too long is a liability rather than a convenience. Most theatres run plain handles for dissectors and ratcheted handles for graspers and retractors. Same No-7 in-line grip geometry and the same quarter-turn collet, so inserts move freely between plain and ratcheted handles. Stainless steel with a composite grip, fully autoclavable.

  • Ratchet holds without effort

Nurse Manager, Lotus Multispecialty Verified purchase

For retraction this is the difference between a comfortable case and an exhausting one. Releases cleanly on the thumb without letting go of the handle.

  • Good handle, inserts sold separately

    Dr. Sunita Deshpande Verified purchase

Perfectly good handle and the collet holds inserts firmly. Just note that inserts are a separate order — worth checking your basket before you check out.

  • Comfortable grip angle

    Dr. Farhan Qureshi Verified purchase

The No-10 sits at a much better wrist angle for me when working towards myself. Worth trying both patterns to see which suits your hand.

  • Inserts interchange freely

    Dr. Vikram Sethi

Same collet across the range means our existing inserts all fit. Made switching supplier much easier than expected.

  • Good value for a teaching unit

    Dr. Priya Ramanathan

We bought several for our skills lab. Robust enough for trainees to learn on and priced so that a mishap is not a disaster.

  • Plain handle for dissection every time

    Dr. Sandeep Joshi

The instant release is exactly what you want around delicate structures. We run plain handles for dissectors and ratcheted for graspers, and this pattern is the one our team prefers.

  • Solid build

    Dr. Ritu Chawla

Composite grip has survived repeated autoclaving without cracking or discolouring, which is where cheaper handles tend to fail first.

  • Q

    Is the composite grip autoclavable?

Asked by Dr. Lakshmi Narayanan · 03 Aug 2026

    A

Yes, the complete handle including the grip is autoclavable at standard parameters. The composite is chosen to resist repeated cycling without cracking or discolouring.

  • Q

Will my existing inserts fit this handle?

Asked by Dr. Imran Shaikh · 04 Jul 2026

    A

If they use the standard quarter-turn 5 mm fitting, yes. Send us a photograph of your insert fitting if you are unsure and we will confirm.

  • Q

What is the difference between the No-3, No-7 and No-10 patterns?

Asked by Dr. Meera Iyer · 21 Jun 2026

    A

They differ in where the finger ring sits relative to the shaft axis. The No-7 is more in-line for straight-on approaches; the No-10 sits lower for a more neutral wrist when working towards yourself. Which suits comes down to hand size and preference.

  • Q

Are inserts included with the handle?

Asked by CSSD Supervisor, Shree Hospital · 15 Apr 2026

    A

No — the handle is sold on its own and inserts are ordered separately. This is deliberate, since most theatres want one or two handles and many different inserts.

  • Q

Should I buy ratcheted or plain?

Asked by Dr. Meera Iyer · 09 Mar 2026

    A

Ratcheted for grasping and retraction, where holding pressure for long periods is tiring. Plain for dissection, where you want the jaw to release the instant finger pressure comes off. Most theatres stock both.
