A helical passer for transobturator tape placement in the surgical management of female stress urinary incontinence. The helix is the point of the design. Its arc is set to follow the obturator foramen outward and away from the bladder and major vessels, so the tape is delivered along a path that keeps clear of the retropubic space entirely — the reason the transobturator route was developed. The right-hand pattern is used for the patient's right side; the left-hand mirror completes the pair. The shaft is stiff enough to hold the arc through the adductor compartment without springing, and the moulded handle gives the controlled rotation the pass depends on. Stainless steel, autoclavable.

  • Good instrument, clear labelling

    Dr. Suresh Pillai Verified purchase

Curve is accurate and the suture eye is smooth with no burr, so no fraying. Would appreciate the side marking being a bit more prominent on the handle.

  • The straight pattern is underrated

    Dr. Priya Ramanathan

Everyone orders the hooks and forgets the straight. For shallow direct passes it is far more precise. Glad it is stocked.

  • Helix follows the foramen correctly

    Dr. Rajesh Nair

The arc is set properly — it takes the tape outward and away from the bladder, which is the whole reason for the transobturator route. Confident using it.

  • Handles well in a deep field

OT Technician, City Care Hospital Verified purchase

The knurled grip stays controllable with wet gloves, which is exactly when you need it. Shaft is stiff enough that it does not deflect through dense tissue.

  • Good value

    Dr. Ritu Chawla Verified purchase

Comparable to the branded passer we were using at a considerably higher price. Same feel in the hand as far as I can tell.

  • Q

Is the handle bonded to the shaft or can it come loose?

Asked by Procurement Head, Medicare Group · 15 Aug 2026

    A

The handle is permanently bonded and is not intended to be removed. It has been tested through repeated autoclave cycles without loosening.

  • Q

Should I buy the right and left patterns together?

Asked by OT Technician, City Care Hospital · 30 Jul 2026

    A

For bilateral procedures, yes. Most pelvic-floor repairs are bilateral and working the wrong-handed curve across the midline is awkward in a deep field. The pair is normally bought and stocked together.

  • Q

What suture sizes will the eye take?

Asked by Dr. Farhan Qureshi · 05 Jun 2026

    A

The eye is sized for the suture materials normally used in pelvic-floor and vaginal repair. If you are using an unusually heavy suture, tell us the gauge and we will confirm it will pass without binding.

  • Q

Can the TOT passer be resterilised, or is it single use?

Asked by CSSD Supervisor, Shree Hospital · 02 May 2026

    A

It is a reusable stainless steel instrument and is fully autoclavable. It is supplied non-sterile and must be sterilised before first use.

  • Q

What is the difference between the curved and the right or left patterns?

Asked by Dr. Imran Shaikh · 04 Mar 2026

    A

The right and left patterns have a full hook for reaching around structures from each side. The curved pattern has a shallower arc for narrower corridors where a full hook would bind before the tip comes round. The straight has no curve at all, for direct head-on passes.
